I was always taught that when you feel it's time to leave a job, you sit down with an employer and give two weeks of written notice.
This allows said employer to find and train your replacement. Conversely, if you are being terminated it gives you time to find yourself a new job.
Calling your boss on their cel phone 4 hours before your shift to tell them you wont be in, is not only unprofessional, it shows a huge amount of disrespect to your co- workers.
People will always remember you from the last encounter they had with you. And I will remember this dishwasher with a glint in my eye.

Speaking of professionalism - you have this blog streaming to the front page of your restaurant's webpage. I've been to the District, and enjoyed the experience (service and food) but I find it a little jarring to hop to a webpage only to be confronted with two angry blog posts in a row. Even though I agree with the opinions expressed, I come to a eatery's webpage for information, not to be shouted at for things I haven't done or participated in. You might want to rethink the image you're projecting on the web - unless you're trying for Angry Soup Guy.
